#1. NC State vs Houston (1983) – It’s absolutely astounding when you consider that NC State had to win the ACC tournament just to get in the dance. Then, they did the impossible: they knocked off a Houston team, loaded with future NBA all time greats including Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon.
#2. Duke vs UNLV (1991) – This one is still hard to fathom! UNLV won the National Title the year before and returned 3 future NBA players: Larry Johnson, Stacey Augmon, and Greg Anthony. The UNLV coach, Jerry Tarkainian, went through 5 towels while watching the game that featured 25 lead changes.
#3. George Mason vs UCONN (2006) – For the second time in NCAA history, a seed this low knocked off UCONN, a favored team by many. George Mason made it all the way to the final four, ushering a new era of a tournament that continues today.
#4. Richmond vs Syracuse (1991) – This game marks the first time a team ranked as a number 15 seed knocked off a number 2 seed in tournament history. The Spiders conquered one of the absolute powers of college basketball and one of the greatest coaches ever.
#5. Norfolk State vs Missouri (2012) – Norfolk State, a 15 seed playing a typical warm-up game for the number 2 seeded Missouri team did the unthinkable as David slew Goliath. This may have been the most embarrassing moments in Missouri basketball history.
